Deal with Dry Skin with Lifestyle Changes

by Lisel Torgerson

Dry skin is usually not a major problem. Nevertheless, it can make your skin feel tight and itchy and lead to premature aging.

When dry skin is a serious condition, it can be disfiguring and lead to self-esteem issues. Fortunately, most dry skin problems stem from environmental factors and can be controlled, partially or completely. The following article will state some of the lifestyle changes you can make and some natural remedies you can try to deal with your dry skin.

Changing your Lifestyle

You can make several changes to help deal with dry skin. They are very simple, trouble-free changes that will not disrupt your daily routine.

Lifestyle Change 1 - Moisturizing Dry Skin Naturally

Moisturizing is an vital step to keep your skin healthy especially if it is dry. Use thick moisturizers on your skin while it is still damp. Do not let your skin dry completely.

You can also start using cosmetics and skin treatment products that contain moisturizers. If your skin is extremely dry try using oils instead of lotions. Oils will stay on longer than creams, and they will prevent moisture from evaporating from the surface of your skin.

Lifestyle Change 2 - Knowing when to Moisturize Dry Skin

Apply moisturizes right after bathing. Pat your skin dry until it is damp and apply the chosen moisturizer immediately. This method will help trap moisture on the surface of your skin.

Lifestyle Change 3 - Use a Humidifier

Hot, dry indoor air can parch sensitive skin and worsen itching and flaking. By using a humidifier, you will add moisture to the air in your home. Maintain your humidifier to defend against bacteria and fungi.

Lifestyle Change 3 - Take a look at your Clothes

The wrong type of fabric can have a detrimental effect on your dry skin. Choose natural fibers such as cotton and silk that will allow your skin to breathe. But wool, although it certainly qualifies as natural, can irritate even normal skin.

It is also important to wash your clothes with gentle detergents, without dyes or perfumes. Dry skin can react adversely to dyes and perfumes.

Homemade Remedies and Natural Moisturizers for Dry Skin

High quality oils (olive oil, for example) are extremely good natural moisturizers. Natural moisturizing oils can be used separately of combined to form a more elaborate moisturizer.

These oils can also be combined with other natural products to make homemade skin care treatments.

For example, place 2 tablespoon of oats in a pan and add 1 tablespoon of honey and a little bit of water. Heat up the mixture a little and put directly on your skin. If you are unsure of the results, try it on your hand first and then wipe off with damp cloth after a few minutes.

Bio skin care is an excellent way to deal with dry skin problems. With a few lifestyle changes plus a natural moisturizer, your dry skin will begin to heal and feel smoother and healthier.
